Acton Center Watering Trough
Location: Main Street, Acton town common, northeast end
The watering trough on the town green was a gift to the town from the Acton Grange. It was dedicated at a Grange Field Day held on the town common in August, 1913. The committee in charge included Past Grange Masters James B. Tuttle, Aurin Payson, and Willim H. Kinglsey, while fundraising through subscription was handled by N. H. Tenney, William Kingsley and G. Taylor. The Acton Center correspondent to the Concord Enterprise pointed out that most of the money was contributed by citizens of Acton Center and noted that long-time female residents were particularly generous (July 30, page 8). The Grange "fountain," as it was called in the Enterprise, replaced the Cowdrey memorial trough that had previously been located in front of the town hall.
As part of a reconfiguration project, the watering trough has been moved across the Concord Road exit.
