Corporal Nathaniel Allen Memorial Stone
Location: Nathaniel Allen Recreation Area, 25 Ledge Rock Way
On May 26, 1899, Nathaniel M. Allen was awarded the Medal of Honor for his bravery at Gettysburg, saving the state colors at the risk of his life. Born in Boston, he was the son of a city police officer. He enlisted in Company B, 1st Regiment in 1861 and served, uninjured, until May 25, 1864. At the time of the award ceremony (a reunion of the old 1st Mass. regiment), Nathaniel Allen was a jeweler living in South Acton with his sisters, Misses Adaline and Charlotte.
