A Note on Acton's Cemeteries

Wandering through Mount Hope Cemetery on a fall day yielded this picture.  It was a poignant scene;  in the foreground is the Joseph K. and Mary Ann Blanchard family, whose stones tell the story of their loss of three children in a week in March 1849 to scarlet fever.  Thinking about how sad cemeteries could be, it seems appropriate to express appreciation to the people whose planning, planting, and care over the years have made Acton’s cemeteries beautiful places, especially in the fall.

Don't miss Acton Recreation’s Annual Halloween Cemetery Tour on October 31 from 3-5 pm starting at the Woodlawn Cemetery Chapel, 104 Concord Road, guided by Acton historian Bill Klauer.
